- Solid boards — heavier, more rigid, feel more substantial underfoot, handle heavy furniture and high footfall better. Recommended for commercial spaces, poolsides, and areas with dining furniture.
- Hollow-core boards — lighter, more economical, easier on structural load limits. Well suited to apartment balconies and terraces where the building’s load capacity matters, or for lower-traffic residential areas.

Yes — the joist frame sits above the existing surface, so there is no demolition. This is the most common terrace deck installation and preserves the waterproofing beneath.

Will water drain properly?
